Scoop the Poop

Most people understand the importance of picking up their dog's poop when they are out walking the dog. No one wants to have dog poop deposited in their yard and left there to draw flies and stink. However many folks do not keep their yard clean and allow the dog poop to build up in their own yard. Worse yet, they allow the poop to build up when the dog is penned in a small chain link pen. Keeping the yard or pen picked up is vital for several reasons. The dog poop draws flies which are messy, lay eggs, and are unsanitary. The yard will begin to smell. The poop that is left will leave behind spores of the intestinal worms that the dog may be carrying and these will be left to infect future dogs or even people. Once the dog poop is picked up, it should be deposited into a biodegradable bag, preferably a paper bag first, and then into a biodegradable plastic bag. I leave mine with the regular garbage pickup. You should check with your garbage man. Most garbage men will tell you if this is ok. If it is NOT ok, ask your city council what is preferred. And, if you live in the country,you can set the dog poop garbage aside in its paper bag until it is dry enough to add to the burn pile, or you can take it to your county dump site. Do NOT use it in a compost pile, it is very strong and will not be good for gardens. Too bad, my dogs poop enough to grow a huge garden! |
